Pete And The Pirates frontmans second solo album of romantic pop-pysch-indie.
Never listened to Pete And The Pirates. Always assumed they were more faux-indie noughties puppets ( Scouting For Girls, The Pigeon Detectives etc) however given Tap Tap are the side-project of Pirates vocalist Tom Sanders and that this, the second Tap Tap album, is currently my favourite pop album of the summer, well...
With a forlorn, introspective, courtly vocal style, suggesting both lost English fokie Duncan Browne and an unlucky-in-love Gaz Coombes, Sanders sings songs of youthful innocence and elemental woes over summer pop mini-pysch arrangements reminiscent of The Shins and Elephant 6 collective. Written in tour vans and hotels while touring with the Pirates, On My Way suggests that if we keep Sanders unhappy and lonesome for the near future we might have a truly great British songwriter to cherish. It really is that good. -Andrew Male Mojo
