after the release of their 6 track ep 'in loving memory of', let's wrestle return with a double a side single on glorious gold vinyl. its their theme tune, 'let's wrestle' never before released, and because of the 18 special swear words in the song, stolen recordings have included the equally brilliant epic 'i'm in fighting mode'. 'let's wrestle' is an instant pop song which will have you singing-a-long after one play despite being a ramshackle 12 bar boogie whilst 'i'm in fighting mode' is like a prime 'painted word' era tv personalties song. limited to just 1000 numbered copies on gold vinyl. “I always win,” states Let’s Wrestle frontman (and genuinely brilliant lyricist) WPG here, and anyone who’s been charmed by the London trio in recent months would find it hard to argue otherwise – scrappy, rough-edged, utterly charming and wholly beguiling, Let’s Wrestle are three kids making the absolute most of a relative modicum of musical know-how. “I’ll sing the songs of truth… I’ll teach YOU a lesson”… and if that’s the case any hater had better not mess with the threesome, as their signature track ‘Let’s Wrestle’ features on the flip: “Let’s wrestle… let’s FUCKING wrestle…” is the sing-along, prior to violent nonsense about biting off mouths and fingers and noses. Get my t-shirt off and get in the mud? Sure thing. -Drowned In Sound Single Of The Week 7th July
The Young Ones series will always retain its legendary status. It seemed to get everything spot on in all areas; humour, intelligence, social observations... and music. With bands like Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Madness and Motorhead all featuring on the show, viewers were pretty much spoilt. To say a song would be deserving of a place in an episode of The Young Ones is a huge compliment, but one I feel is justified with ‘Let’s Wrestle’.
‘I’m
In Fighting Mode’ holds the same schoolboy charm andwarming melody, but
in a more subdued setting, being a worthy double A side contender.
